Welcome to the Longshaw Academy Friends
Longshaw Academy Friends (affectionately known as LAF) is the school’s parent teacher and friends of the school association. We wanted to recognise the contribution and involvement of other individuals who support the school which is why we decided to call ourselves ‘Longshaw Academy Friends’. We continue to seek ways to further foster relationships with our friends both within the school and wider community.
Our current committee is:
We are members of Parentkind UK which is a national organisation that supports PTAs. In addition, we are a charity registered under the Charity Commission (Registered Charity Number 1176326).
As set out in our Constitution, the purpose of LAF is to “advance the education of pupils in the school in particular by:
- Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school;
- Engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils”.
Class Representatives
We are fortunate to have a fabulous group of Class Representatives (and our more recently appointed Community Representatives). They ensure good communications between parents / carers, teachers and LAF. They also lead and get involved in projects and canvass support for our numerous activities.
Our current Class Representatives are Lauren (Nursery), Ceyda (RR), Natasha (1P), Fay (2W), Aisha and Lynn (3A), Samina (3H), Helen (40), Gerta (4A), Fran, Nina & Charlotte (5L), Vicky & Susie (5P), Betsy (6M) and Claudia (6H). Our Community Representatives are Luciana and Shana.
If you would like to be a Class or Community Representative please do get in touch by emailing LAF at longshawacademyfriends@gmail.com
What do we do?
To read a full annual report of our activities, access our Chairs Report here.
Bearing in mind we were only set up three years ago and we have had to deal with the restrictions of COVID we have achieved quite a lot.
We raised money to redevelop the Infant Playground and provide equipment for the junior playground.
We have held very successful discos for the children. We have had a team of parents who have worked together to offer Pre-loved Uniform sales. Thanks to the wonderful book donations from parents we have held a number Book Sales which the children have particularly enjoyed.
We have held a number of competitions including Cup Cake and poster designing competitions. We have held a fun Quiz Night.
We are very aware of how we impact the environment and working with the children on the school’s Eco Council we devised a Plastic Party Pack which we rent out to parents and the wider community.
Every year we have been very fortunate that a group of Year 6 parents have worked together to raise money for the Year 6 leavers celebrations.
We have held a number of very successful events including Eid Bazaars and Christmas Fetes. We really look forward to holding many more in the future.
This year we have not been able to do our normal Christmas activities but have still managed to arrange Personalised Christmas Cards, an ‘Elfridges Gift Shop’ for the children and donated two Christmas trees for the children to enjoy.
To explore in more detail the positive impact we've had at Longshaw please read our annual Chair's Report here.
We always welcome ideas and suggestions on how we can raise funds and make the school a better place for our children and the school community. Please do email LAF at longshawacademyfriends@gmail.com with any suggestions and ideas and if you want to get involved, we are always looking for volunteers.
