Learners at Longshaw
At Longshaw, we support pupils awareness of one’s own learning through teaching metacogntion skills. At the beginning of the school year we discuss with all children different strategies and tools that they can use to be more effective learners. We continue to facilitate this throughout the year by using our Longshaw Learning Powers in lessons to discuss, reflect and evaluate.
Each learning power represents a key skill which supports the development of metacognition, it is represented by an animal and all of the powers can be seen in every classroom around the school. We encourage our pupils to regularly reflect on the different learning powers and how these have enabled them to become effective learners.
