Homework
Homework is set by all classes on a Friday and is normally set to be returned on the following Wednesday. We use Microsoft Sways to inform parents and children of the tasks set for them, however each class may provide books in which to complete tasks or there may be other hard copy resources to use.
Homework is designed to support classwork and help revise/consolidate your child's learning. Class teachers take an individualised approach to homework, as needed to support all learners, and we encourage parents to support their children in its completion and speak to class teachers if it becomes a struggle. Homework should not be too onerous and the tasks set should follow on from class work. Homework should not cause conflict at home. If this is the case, parents should discuss this with the classteacher to find a way forward that is best for everyone.
Parents can help support their children by setting a routine for homework completion that will help prepare them for the next stage of their education, whether that is the next year group at Longshaw - or transfer to Year 7 where the quantity and expectations increase significantly. The children are encouraged to be as independent as possible with their homework, but the level of independence will depend on the age and stage of development of each child.
Support in school with homework completion is done within the school day and arrangements for this vary from class to class and as time allows.
Below are the links to the homework for each year group. These will remain the same throughout the year - the content of which will update each Friday.
