World Book Day 2021
During Spring Term 2, Longshaw are participating in Books at Bedtime where we read a book every night at bedtime.
What about the staff? Do not worry, we are getting involved too! Every Wednesday, a different staff member is going to film themselves reading their favourite bedtime story which will be uploaded below. Check them out below.
Alongside this, we are doing LOTS of other exciting things during book week:
This year, the whole school will be participating in a ‘take one book’ week. This is where each class will have lessons that are linked to the same picture book. This year we have chosen Flotsam by David Wiesner. The teachers are busy planning some fantastic ideas and I am really looking forward to seeing what each year group produces.

Thursday is our favourite day of Book Week because it is Dress Up Day! I know the children (and staff) are already excitedly planning their outfits and creations. This year, the children can come to school (virtually) dressed as any book character.
This term, we are also hosting a challenge for our Key Stage 2 challenge called ‘Extreme Reading 2021’. We would like children to get a photo of themselves reading their books in unusual and out-of-the-ordinary places. An example could be up a climbing frame or on a trampoline (children have been asked to be mindful of being safe and to check with an adult first). The more creative – the better! We would love for families to get involved as well so please feel free to join in. Watch this space for some amazing pictures!
As well as the extreme reading challenge, we will also be holding a Reading Challenge for children from Years 4- 6. For this challenge, the children have four weeks to: READ AND REVIEW 6 BOOKS. Check back here to read some reviews the children have written.
